Last but not least, the Panama
Canal. We wanted to get a shorter way to travel from ocean to ocean. Panama at
the time was ruled by Columbia. So we helped Panama defeat Columbia and for our
gratitude we got to make the canal. The message of this cartoon is Roosevelt
digging for the canal. This is portrayed in a positive way because no one is
trying to stop him. Other people might say that we had no right to just go up
to Columbia, defeat them, and then just go build a canal. One major technique
is exaggeration. The person that is exaggerated is Roosevelt because he so much
power. The little technique is labeling. The new treaty is just saying that we
had defeated Columbia and we could dig the Panama Canal. This does not support
my opinion because, it is portrayed positively and negatively. The canal was
useful though, even though I do not think it should have been built.
