Open door Policy

This cartoon is about the Open Door Policy. The Open Door Policy was when China finally opened their doors but, no country could have monopolies with China. The cartoonist’s message is that all different countries are competing for China but the Emperor is trying to stop them. The cartoonist thinks that the countries should not compete for China so the cartoonist has a negative opinion on the Open Door Policy. Other people might say that China had good resources and that we should compete against the other countries. One technique is symbolism. All of the different rulers of different countries have their symbol to symbolize that tons of countries were fighting for China. Another technique is labeling. On china it says “chine” because the countries all want to “chine” on china and get a part of it. This supports my opinion because the cartoonist does not want other countries to fight over China. China was a very desired country at the time.
